About this Custom Totem Generator

Create a personalized Totem of Undying texture from any Java Edition player skin or an uploaded PNG. The tool builds a compact, compatible 16×16 item texture and places it in the correct resource pack path (assets/minecraft/textures/item/totem_of_undying.png), ready to drop into a pack.

Choose between two layout styles: New (stylized modern look) or Old(legacy/compact format). Both outputs are fully compatible with Minecraft Java; you can select the desired pack_format so the generated ZIP works cleanly across versions from 1.19.4 up through 1.21.x.

Everything runs client-side in your browser—your skin image is not uploaded to our servers. The generator reads the original skin layout (head, torso, arms, legs and optional hat layer) and composes a true pixel-based totem sprite rather than using simple image scaling. Drag the face selector to pick an exact 8×8 head region (great for off-center eyes, hats, or custom head shapes).

Quick export options

  • PNG: Download the 16×16 texture directly.
  • Pack: Download a ZIP that contains a minimal pack.mcmeta and the proper folder hierarchy so Minecraft recognizes the pack immediately.
  • Share: Create a compact link with only changed pixels embedded for easy sharing.

Why make a custom totem? They’re an easy, low-cost cosmetic tweak—perfect for marking a season on an SMP, reinforcing a streamer or team brand, or adding seasonal art. The override targets a single texture, so it’s tiny, safe to merge with other packs, and has negligible performance impact. To revert, disable or remove the generated resource pack.

Want more features (Bedrock support, animation frames, batch generation)? Send suggestions—we’re actively improving the tool. Enjoy making your survival more personal, one totem at a time.

Technical Details

The generator works by reading the face and body sections of a Minecraft skin texture and mapping them onto the totem model's texture file (totem_of_undying.png). It creates a properly formatted resource pack with the correct folder structure and pack.mcmeta file, ensuring compatibility with Minecraft Java Edition versions 1.9 and above.

All image processing is performed client-side using HTML5 Canvas, so your skin data never leaves your browser. The tool supports both classic (64×32) and modern (64×64) skin formats, automatically detecting and handling the layout.

Common Questions

Does this work on Bedrock Edition?

Not currently. This tool generates Java Edition resource packs. Bedrock uses a different pack format that requires additional manifest files and structure.

Can I use this on servers?

Yes! Resource packs are client-side only, so you can use your custom totem on any server. Other players will see the default totem unless they also have your pack installed.

Will this work with other resource packs?

Yes, as long as the other pack doesn't also modify the totem texture. If there's a conflict, the pack loaded last (higher in the list) takes priority. Use our Resource Pack Merger tool to combine multiple packs properly.

Why does my totem look off-center?

Some custom skins place the face in non-standard positions. Use the "Face Origin" override fields to manually adjust the X and Y coordinates (usually 8,8 for standard skins).
