Minecraft Snapshot 25w08a: Personality-Packed Wolves & Redesigned Spawn Eggs
The latest Minecraft snapshot brings adorable new features including unique wolf personalities, beautifully redesigned spawn eggs, and improved biome-specific visuals.
What's New in This Snapshot?
We're adding some new, fun and cute features in this week's snapshot. Spawn eggs just got cuter with new textures looking more like the mobs they spawn. Wolves are becoming even more unique with their own individual sounds, and leaf litter will now look even better with new colors. We've also made some tweaks to sheep spawning in different biomes.
New Features
Wolf Sound Variants
- Added 6 new Wolf sound variants with unique ambient, hurt, death, growl, whine, and pant sounds
- New personality variants: big, cute, puglin, angry, grumpy and sad
- Original Wolf sounds now used for the "classic" variant
- Each Wolf gets a random sound variant, independent of their texture variant
Spawn Egg Visual Overhaul
- Each Spawn Egg now has a unique visual capturing the mob's personality
- Egg shapes reflect the in-world size of the mob they spawn
- Smaller mobs have proportionally smaller spawn eggs
- Improved readability and accessibility with distinct designs
Farm Animal Variants
Sheep Wool Color Distribution:
- Black Sheep most common in cold biomes
- Brown Sheep most common in warm biomes
- Pink Sheep remain very rare but can spawn anywhere
- Cold biome uncommon colors: gray, light gray, white and brown
- Warm biome uncommon colors: gray, light gray, white and black
Leaf Litter Improvements
- Leaf Litter is now tinted based on its biome location
- Enhanced visual variety across different biomes
- Improved environmental immersion

- Resource Pack version is now 53
Wolf Sound Variants
Wolf sound variants can be data-driven by adding entries to data/<namespace>/wolf_sound_variant/<id>.json
Sound event fields:
- ambient_sound
- death_sound
- growl_sound
- hurt_sound
- pant_sound
- whine_sound
Resource Pack Changes
- Added possibility to tint blocks based on a dry foliage color map
- Updated textures for Spawn Eggs
- New and updated sounds for Wolf sound variants
- Added colormap texture for tinting dry foliage tinted blocks
- Sheep textures renamed and updated for wool undercoat
Bug Fixes
- MC-177522 - Wolf barking and whining sounds are subtitled as "Wolf pants"
- MC-280182 - Shields can block some environmental damage sources
- MC-280230 - DeathLootTable field is incorrectly named DeathLoothTable
How to Get the Snapshot
- Open the Minecraft Launcher
- Go to the "Installations" tab
- Enable snapshots in the settings
- Create a new installation and select the "25w08a" version
